2022 Hurricane Relief Efforts

As we think of ways to sustain our hope in these times of repeated disasters, please join together as a faith community to share our resources with those in desperate need.  Let us lend our hope to those looking for it.

Recent Hurricanes Have Ravaged Puerto Rico and Florida.
If you are in a position to assist financially, please consider supporting the following UUA initiative and UUCSR Veatch Program grantees and/or philanthropic partners.

The Unitarian Universalist Disaster Relief Fund for Hurricane Ian assistance is organized as part of a covenant between the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and its member congregations to provide generously for those in need and to community partners providing assistance.

The Fiona Community Response Fund is raising funds not only to address the immediate needs of those impacted in Puerto Rico, but also working towards longer-term structural changes that will help prepare some of the island’s most vulnerable for future storms. Within the last week, the group raised over $2.5 million towards a $10 million goal. Funds will be allocated twice each week to grassroots groups on the ground in areas most impacted through the end of the year.  You may donate to the Fiona Community Response Fund HERE.

The Florida Grassroots Hurricane Community Recovery Fund was started by a coalition of organizations, which include Veatch grantees: Florida Rising, Central Florida Jobs with Justice, the Florida Immigrant Coalition, and Faith in Florida. These organizations have a long history of collaborating, having activated a similar effort to help recover from Hurricane Irma in 2017. During that year, the Fund regranted to over 38 grassroots partners who helped with both immediate and long-term needs, built leadership, and organized for policy change. They will again engage in similar short term relief and longer term recovery and rebuilding. The Veatch Program will be contributing to this Fund, which is being managed through the local Miami Foundation. If you would like to donate individually to support Veatch grantees and other grassroots efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ian, please visit this link.
