Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions about Shelter Rock
1. Is Unitarian Universalism a mainstream religion?
Unitarian Universalism is an unusual faith because it is non-creedal; there are common values and principles to guide one’s faith development. According to the Pew Charitable Trusts, fewer than 1% of Americans identify as Unitarian Universalist. It is, however, the fastest growing denomination, outpacing evangelical growth. According to the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, the denomination grew nationally by 15.8% from 2000 to 2010. Services do not require any special dress. Some people feel comfortable in very casual clothes; others prefer more dressy attire. It is an individual choice.

Yes, Shelter Rock offers both childcare (nursery) and Religious Education (RE) classes for children of all ages during the Sunday service. Visitors are welcome. Click RELIGIOUS EDUCATION for more information.

Children are welcome to stay with their families during the service.
5. Do you have services year-round, or do you close during the summer?
Sunday services are at 11:00 AM throughout the year. Summer Services tend to be more casual than during the school year. Occasionally, visiting ministers or special guests conduct the Services.
6. What are the services like?
Sunday services usually have an opening chalice lighting, a sermon or reflection(s), readings, music, time for meditation or prayer and a collection. They are usually led by our Ministry Team and Music Director, but lay leaders also participate in creating the Sunday experience.
